What tiger eye is
Tiger eye is a quartz gem material known for a moving band of reflected light, an effect called chatoyancy. The Gemological Institute of America describes this silky reflection and the material’s use in polished beads and cabochons. How clearly you see the band depends on the stone, its cut and the light.

Our beads are sold as natural mineral stone. Natural origin does not mean untreated, so here is what we can say for each strand, and what we cannot.

Tiger eye or silver sheen obsidian?
For warm golden-brown bands, start with yellow tiger eye. For a mostly black strand with a silver-gray reflection, compare silver sheen obsidian. Tiger eye is quartz; obsidian is volcanic glass. Both reflections can change with the light and viewing angle.

Wearing it, and looking after it
Which wrist? Wear it where the golden band catches your eye and the strand moves comfortably. Choose the left for your own ritual of welcoming prosperity, or the right as a reminder of courage and protection. Give the beads space beside a watch.
Water, sleep, the gym. Take it off. Hot water, chlorine and constant stretching are hard on the elastic cord.
Cleaning. A soft, dry cloth after wear. No chemicals, no ultrasonic cleaners. Roll the bracelet over your hand rather than pulling it wide. The full routine is on the care page.
Questions people ask before buying
What meaning can I give a tiger eye bracelet?
Yellow, red or golden?
Is red tiger eye always dyed?
Not necessarily. Heating can turn tiger eye red without adding dye. That is a treatment of the mineral, not the same thing as replacing it with glass. “Natural stone” and “untreated” are separate claims.
