BaZi and the Five Elements.
A guide to personal design.

Discover how your birth moment becomes a personal palette, with a reason for each stone.

Your birth details become a chart. We read its season, pattern and relationships between the Five Elements, then use that interpretation to guide a bracelet. The current Birth route uses your birth details. To begin with a present-day situation or wish instead, use Need.

A method, not a mood

Fixed inputs, fixed rules. The same birth details always produce the same chart — nothing is improvised.

Rooted in tradition

The Five Elements and their relationships give the design a traditional foundation; your stones, colors and arrangement give it a personal form.

Meaning, made personal

We interpret the chart as a whole and explain how each selected stone’s traditional meaning becomes part of your design.

Your birth details become a chart.

Year, month, day, and hour — four parts of one moment. Read together, they lay out as your birth chart: the starting table everything else is read from.

Your birth moment is the starting point. A date and a time get converted onto the traditional calendar and split into four columns — the four parts of your chart. It is arithmetic, done the same way every time. The calculation uses the complete date, local time and resolved birthplace; an hour by itself is not enough.

Your chart carries your elements.

Every part of the chart carries an element. They aren’t random labels — each one feeds the next and keeps another in check.

Wood木Green stones
Fire火Amethyst
Earth土Yellow / brown
Metal金White / clear
Water水Blue / black
Generating cycle — each element feeds the next (the outer ring) Controlling cycle — each element checks another (the inner star)

Wood feeds Fire, Fire makes Earth, Earth bears Metal, Metal holds Water, Water grows Wood. The dashed lines are the counter-balance. A chart is interpreted through these relationships and its seasonal context; equal percentages are not the goal.

The whole pattern matters.

The element shares describe one part of the chart. The reading also considers season, strength and the relationships between elements. A low percentage alone does not decide what to add.

Wood24%
Fire7%
Earth19%
Metal31%
Water19%

Illustrative element shares only. These percentages are not a recommendation to add the smallest category.

“Start with the chart as a whole, then explain the choice of each stone.”

In our new-job example, Wood has the lowest share, while Fire guides the main strand. That follows the chart’s overall pattern rather than a missing-element rule. Read the example and each stone’s role.

Crystals carry elemental character, too.

The Studio assigns stones to elements within its design system. These traditional associations connect color, character and personal meaning. In Birth, we use them alongside the chart and available materials. A request in your own words belongs to the separate Need route.

A worked example · Amethyst

Why amethyst reads as a Fire stone.

Amethyst is purple quartz — silicon dioxide (SiO₂), Mohs 7, the February birthstone. Purple is part of the visual language used here; check the product description for the specific material and any known treatments. That warm purple reads as a Fire stone. Amethyst can therefore play a Fire role when the overall reading supports that direction. Its place is explained in the context of the particular design, rather than decided by a low Fire percentage alone.

Before you begin

We interpret your birth chart’s season, elements and relationships, then connect that direction to the available stones. We read the whole pattern and explain each stone’s role, giving your bracelet a story rooted in traditional symbolism.
Your birth date, local birth time and a birthplace selected from the city suggestions. The current birthday route requires a birth time; it does not support an unknown-hour or date-only reading. If you do not know the time, you can start from your words or build bead by bead instead. See what to prepare.
No. Choose a bracelet for its materials, color and fit. The Five Elements offer another way to discover a personal design. See the stone guide and individual product details.
