For a small welcome at your door or in your pocket. A rounded silver obsidian cat carving.
A little welcome with one raised paw.
The raised paw of the Japanese maneki-neko is a traditional gesture of welcome associated with good fortune. On this rounded charcoal cat, the paw sits beside a silvery ear above a circular belly detail.
The story
Mingei International Museum exhibited beckoning cats from a collection of 155. The nineteenth- and twentieth-century examples were mostly clay, with some made from wood, metal, or papier-mâché.
Choose who gets a warm hello.
Set the cat face up beside your keys. Before you leave, pick someone to greet first that day. Slip the carving into a pouch of your own if you want to take it along.
