For someone who collects the stories in their jewelry. A pale fox carving on a beaded necklace.
A fox with a story to tell.
In East Asian folklore the nine-tailed fox is a creature of long life and quick wits, a shape-shifter at the center of many old tales. This pale translucent carving shows a fox face framed by curling tails, beneath a gold-tone flower connector and mixed beads.
The story
The nine-tailed fox first appears in the Shanhaijing, a collection of geography and myth compiled more than two thousand years ago: in the land of Qingqiu, it says, there lives a fox with nine tails. Later tales gave the fox the power to change shape, and said that the older a fox grew, the more it could do.
Keep it with your favorite story pieces.
Wear it as a carved focal piece, then lay it flat in its own compartment between wears. As a gift, include a favorite fox story and a few words about why you chose it for that person.
