Studio Notes / Choosing a brown bracelet
A little smoke, or a deeper brown?

Light smoky brown or deep smoky brown?
Choose the appearance you would enjoy across the strand. A light accent and a continuous dark bracelet are different design choices, even when both use smoky quartz.
These are two different Studio appearance options, not photographs of one bead under two lights. They are design visualisations, not pictures of a guaranteed current batch. Natural color and internal detail vary.
Clear quartz can create a lighter interval between brown beads. Repeating the darker option can give a design a more continuous brown presence. Neither arrangement is a quality grade or a rule you have to follow. Compare the whole result before choosing.
Will a smoky quartz bracelet look almost black?
Some smoky quartz is much darker than others. A review in The Journal of Gemmology describes brown-to-black shades, including greyer smoky quartz and an opaque black variety called morion. The name alone does not tell you how light or dark a particular bracelet will look.
When shopping from photographs, compare an ordinary-light view with any strongly lit close-up. Look at several beads and the whole strand, rather than choosing from one especially bright edge. A photograph's lighting, background and presentation can affect your impression; our two visualisations above are not a controlled lighting test.
If seeing a warm brown is essential to you, say so before ordering and ask about the actual available material. Do not assume that a nearly black photograph will reveal the shade you want in everyday wear.
Does darker color prove the quartz is natural or treated?
No. Color depth is not a treatment report. The same gemmology review discusses color produced through natural processes and through laboratory irradiation and heating. It has not tested Stone Whisper's beads. Our catalogue pictures do not establish where a bead formed or its treatment history.
For a material-identification question, ask for information covering the actual material. Scratching, heating or striking your bracelet is not a useful substitute for professional identification and can damage it.
Choose smoky quartz in your own design
In Studio's Build it yourself path, the catalogue currently lists Smoky Quartz in Light smoky brown and Deep smoky brown. Select the option you prefer, arrange the beads and review the complete strand. Availability and the current quote belong to your selected design, not to the pictures in this guide.
Bead diameter and wrist fit are separate choices. Use our bead-size guide to compare scale, and measure the wearer's wrist before paying. A screen image is not life-size.
Prefer to begin with a situation or gift message? In What you need, describe it in your own words, including an appearance you enjoy. Review the selected stones and their explanation; share your preferred appearance, then review your returned design. For individual bead choices, use Builder.
